  2. ELECTRONIC PRINT MEDIA SERVICE USER'S GUIDE

  4. All documentation assumes you have a basic understanding of how to 
  5. use your computer and the programs you have purchased for it.
  6.  
  7. IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT COLOR SEPARATIONS
  8. ---------------------------------------------
  9. Included on this CD is the Adobe Acrobat Reader installation 
  10. program and an Acrobat file (COL_SEP.PDF) containing instructions 
  11. for creating your own color separations using Adobe Photoshop.  The 
  12. Acrobat Reader must be installed on your computer first in order 
  13. to view any Acrobat files (*.PDF).  
  14.  
  15. COL_SEP.PDF can be found in the \READ_ME directory.
  16.  
  17. Windows 95 and NT users can find the Acrobat installation program 
  18. (AR32E30.EXE) located in the \READ_ME\ACROREAD\32BIT directory on 
  19. this CD.

  21. Windows 3.1 users can find the the Acrobat installation program 
  22. (AR16E30.EXE) located in the \READ_ME\ACROREAD\16BIT directory on 
  23. this CD.

  29. BASIC REQUIREMENTS
  30. ------------------
  31. Electronic Print Media Service images require application(s) that 
  32. are compatible with TIFF and/or EPS file formats. The TIFF images 
  33. are saved as TIFF files in Adobe Photoshop. EPS images are saved as
  34. Adobe Illustrator 1.1 or 3.0 files. Any other hardware requirements
  35. will be based primarily on the applications you use and the type of
  36. final output you plan to produce. For best results, your printer
  37. should be PostScript compatible.

  39. ART SELECTION
  40. -------------
  41. ** Tearsheet Magazine **
  42. Tearsheet contains a printed pictorial index, which provides 
  43. thumbnail and file name for each image in the issue.
  44.  
  45. ** Multi-Ad Search **
  46. Because keywords and descriptions are attached to the image 
  47. files, they can be used with Search. When you Add Files to your 
  48. catalog, Search will pick up the keywords and descriptions from 
  49. the image files.

  51. USING THE CLIP ART
  52. ------------------
  53. ** PAGE LAYOUT PROGRAMS **
  54. Open your page layout program, create a new document and place the 
  55. TIFF and EPS files as you would any other pictures. The following 
  56. page layout programs are compatible with both TIFF & EPS file 
  57. formats:
  58.  *PageMaker
  59.  *QuarkXpress
  60.  *Corel Publisher
  61.  
  62. ** DRAW PROGRAMS **
  63. Open your draw program, then Open or Import the EPS file. These 
  64. images can be manipulated like any other EPS image. The following 
  65. draw programs are compatible with the EPS file format:
  66.  *Illustrator
  67.  *FreeHand (TIFF files can be placed into a document, EPS files are opened as a document)
  68.  *Corel Draw! (TIFF files can be imported into a document)
  69.  *Canvas
  70.  
  71. Many of your Electronic Print Media Service EPS images are provided
  72. as layered illustrations. This means that several elements can be
  73. lifted out of a single image and used as stand-alone artwork. In 
  74. order to pull apart or separate the layers of an EPS file, a 
  75. PostScript draw program is necessary.
  76.  
  77. ** PAINT PROGRAMS **
  78. The TIFF files are either 300 dpi black and white images or
  79. 170 dpi grayscale, duotone or color images; the photos are 
  80. offered in 300 dpi and 170 dpi. They can be manipulated like 
  81. any other TIFF image in the following programs:
  82.  *Photoshop (EPS images are converted to bitmap images)
  83.  *Corel Photo-Paint (EPS images are converted to bitmap images)
  84.  *Canvas
  85.  
  86. If your application was not listed above, please refer to your 
  87. software manual for compatibility.
